Week 3 November 2014: People On the Move – Asset Management

  • Xiaoyu Liu has moved to Aviva Investors, the £234bn asset management arm of the insurer Aviva, as a fund manager for emerging markets and Asia Pacific equities. Ms Liu joins from JPMorgan Asset Management.
  • Sanditon, the London-based asset management boutique launched in 2013, has confirmed that Julie Dean will join in the spring, following her surprise departure from Schroders last month. The move will reunite Ms Dean with her ex-Cazenove colleagues Chris Rice and Tim Russell who co-founded Sanditon along with Neil Canetty-Clarke and Rupert Tyer. Sanditon plans to launch a long/short UK Select fund later this year and a long-only UK fund in 2015.
  • Paul Abberley is to take over as chief executive of Charles Stanley, the private client broker, from Sir David Howard who will remain as non-executive chairman. Mr Abberley joined Charles Stanley as chief investment officer-designate in June after serving as interim chief executive of Aviva Investors.
  • Cushing Asset Management, the investment advisory arm of Swank Capital, the Dallas-based energy investment group, has hired Geoff Crumrine as head of institutional and international distribution from OppenheimerFunds. Further hires are expected over the next year.
  • Kames Capital, the £51.9bn Edinburgh-based manager, has appointed Fiona Hope as institutional client director. Ms Hope, who joins from the charity LinkAble where she was a trustee and voluntary fundraiser, has previously worked at Deutsche Asset Management, JPMorgan Fleming and Merrill Lynch.
  • Ian Joneshas joined the leadership team at Pirc, the investor advisory group. Mr Jones was previously head of ESG at Cooperative Asset Management, where he was the architect of many of TCAM’s corporate governance initiatives.
  • Two hires for Somerset Capital, the $5.5bn emerging markets specialist. Dhawal Mehta has joined as a senior analyst in Singapore from Reliance Asset Management where he ran the Indian Equity Growth fund. Fergus Argyle also joins as a senior analyst in London from Herald Investment Management.
  • Two hires also for the investment management group at Morningstar, the investment research provider. Clémence Dachicourtand Marina Jelesova have both joined as investment consultants and portfolio managers, from La Francaise AM and Redington, a rival consultancy, respectively.
  • Toby Jameson-Till has moved to Psigma Investment Management, the £2.3bn boutique, as investment director, from Kleinwort Benson.
  • Union Bancaire Privée, the $107bn Swiss private bank, has appointed Karine Jesiolowski as a senior investment specialist in the emerging markets bond team. Ms Jesiolowski joins UBP from BNP Paribas Fortis.
  • Emma McWilliam has moved to the enterprise risk management team at Hymans Robertson, the consultancy, from Milliman, the actuarial consultants.
  • David Bloom has moved to Wilmington Trust, the $80bn Delaware-based wealth manager, as a senior private client adviser from JPMorgan.”source: ft.com
